This is a collection of TEXT files that contains a course in Irish Gaelic. It was obtained on the Internet, by anonymous FTP, from the site walton.maths.tcd.ie (134.226.81.10), in the directory /pub/gaeilge.
In their original form, the files were in plain ASCII text. To represent the "fada" punctuation, the convention of following the vowel with a "/" was used. I did a bulk conversion on these files so that Macintosh users would see the punctuation as it actually appears in written Irish. The conversions were as follows :
a/ ---> á
e/ ---> é
i/ ---> í
o/ ---> ó
u/ ---> ú
Hopefully, the bulk conversion went cleanly. When you view these files with a text editor or word processor, I recommend that you use a font such as Times or Courier that has "fada" punctuation for both upper and lower case vowels - most fonts seem to only have the lower case vowels. If you use Edit, or Edit II, there are resources in the files that automatically cause 10 point Courier font to be used.
